RoboCup 2026 recently took place in Incheon, South Korea, for the first time. The international tournament is considered the world championship of robot soccer and brings together research, science and technological innovation every year. This year, more than 3,000 participants and over 15,000 visitors were expected.

As a Dortmund company for custom, web-based software solutions, ingenit supports the Ruhrbot Devils, TU Dortmund’s robot soccer team, both financially and with personnel. Our Managing Director Thomas Klute accompanied the team on site as an active member.

Thomas Klute has been involved in robot soccer since his student days. As part of his work at TU Dortmund, he developed an innovative solution for RoboCup that can, among other things, observe the game and automatically calculate match statistics. At its core is a low-cost, AI-assisted multi-camera system that captures the game in three dimensions. The system enables real-time analysis of ball and robot movements and lays the foundation for data-driven analysis and research in the newly founded Humanoid Soccer League. By combining off-the-shelf hardware components, the result is a system that is not only powerful but also easy for research teams to replicate – while remaining inexpensive. The solution was used successfully in competition and, we are pleased to say, won first place in the RoboCup “Open Research” competition.

Supporting the Ruhrbot Devils also reflects who we are at ingenit. Our company slogan “Wir leben IT” (“We live IT”) stands for the passion, commitment and professional standards with which we approach our projects. This enthusiasm for information technology does not end with the working day – it also shows in the commitment of our employees and Managing Directors. Thomas Klute contributing his experience and expertise to the further development of the Ruhrbot Devils – and even receiving an award for it – is a great example.

The combination of research, artificial intelligence and modern software development has made RoboCup an important platform for scientific exchange for many years. We are all the more pleased to accompany the Ruhrbot Devils on this journey and wish the entire team continued success, both in training and in competition.

Next year, RoboCup will take place in Nuremberg from June 15 – June 21.
